I had booked my transportation to Pyin-Oo-Lwin at Ostello Bello. At 9 am Malte, Leo, one local and I were put in a taxi and 2.5 – 3 hours later we arrived in Pyin-Oo-Lwin at the Orchid Nan Myang Hotel. This is an old colonial style house with huge and high rooms and a nice garden. The rooms were very cold though.
A movie crew was just shooting a movie in the garden. It was quite interesting to watch. Maybe I had even seen an Asian star, who knows!
I took one of the free bikes and cycled into town since I urgently needed an ATM. I visited the Purcell Tower
and at the ATM I met Malte and Leo. We decided to go to the Anisakan waterfalls together. On our way back to the hotel we stopped at the Three Kings Statue.
We got a cab and drove to the waterfalls. It is about a 30 minute walk down to the actual falls. It is worth it, they are beautiful!
The way took us about 40-45 minutes. Back at the hostel I wrote my journal and worked a bit on the blog before I met with the two guys again (both German), Liro (Israel) and the Dutch girl from my dorm for dinner. We went to a café close to the hotel. It was super cold so we met in the boy´s room with a heater and played cards. I learned another game again, it was called Kabu. At about 10 pm we went to bed. I was perfectly well, when I went to bed. But in the middle of the night I woke up because I had really bad cramps in my belly and felt nauseous. I had to run to the toilet and had diarrhea. I spent most of the rest of the night in the cold bathroom. At 7 I got ready to check out and have breakfast. I felt so sick I only ate two bites of plain toast. I took the toast with me and took about half an hour to eat it up finally. We hopped into the free shuttle from our hostel to the train station and waited for the train to Hsipaw. We got upper class tickets, 2750 Kyat (~1,70€) for a 7 hour train ride. The real experience and about half price is of course in the lower class, but in my condition I definitely preferred the upper class. The seats are super comfortable, big and even have a foot rest. I felt really bad and shortly before the train left the station I finally had to throw up. After that I felt a lot better, at least for the next 3 to 4 hours and could actually sort of enjoy the train ride through the nice landscape and over the famous Goteik Viaduct. With 689m length and 250m height this is the highest bridge in Myanmar and it was the biggest railway bridge when it was finished in 1900. If you plan to go to Hsipaw taking the train that goes from Mandalay to Lashio is a must do! It is very slow and very shaky, rocking from one side to the other, but the views are great!
I started feeling sick again, but at least everything stayed inside this time. Apart from drinking some water and having one cookie I didn´t eat anything that day, I was too afraid and didn´t feel like it. At about 4 pm we arrived in Pyin-Ooo-Lwin.
